Cavapoo Size Guide: Toy vs Mini
Cavapoos come in two main sizes depending on whether a Toy Poodle orMiniature Poodle is used in the pairing:
- Toy Cavapoo: 7‒13 lbs fully grown. The most popular size — small enough for apartments and travel, but sturdy enough for families with kids. Ideal for people who want a truly compact companion dog.
- Mini Cavapoo: 13‒20 lbs fully grown. Slightly larger and often a bit more robust. A good middle ground between a lap dog and a small active dog.
- Coat types: Cavapoos can have a wavy coat (more Cavalier-influenced) or a curly coat (morePoodle-influenced). Curlier coats shed less but require more grooming. Wavy coats are softer and lower-maintenance but shed slightly more.
- Colors: Apricot, red, cream, chocolate, black, and parti-color (two-tone). Apricot and red arethe most popular and most searched.
Cavapoo Temperament: What Makes Them Special
- Deeply affectionate: Cavapoos are bredfrom the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel — one of the most gentle, loving breedsin existence. That warmth comes through strongly. These dogs want to be withyou. They’re not independent dogs — they’re companion dogs in the truest sense.
- Gentle with kids and elderly: Their calm, non-aggressive nature makes them exceptional with young children and older family members. They’re rarely reactive or jumpy.
- Low energy (relativeto Goldendoodles): Cavapoos are playful but not high-energy. A couple ofshort walks and some indoor play is usually enough. They’re not a dog thatneeds a yard to run in.
- Velcro dogs: Cavapoos bond intensely with their people. This is wonderful — but it also means they can develop separation anxiety if not properly conditioned to alone time from puppy hood. This is something we work on intentionally in our socialization program.
- Highly trainable: The Poodle intelligence makes them quick learners. They respond beautifully to positive reinforcement and generally want to please.
